Measure For Retractable Screens

How To Measure For Retractable Screens

Measuring your door opening correctly is essential to getting a screen door that fits your needs and, of course, your door! We’ve compiled a step-by-step guide and tips to make sure you get exactly the screen you need.

Before you measure: You need to ensure that the opening is plumb, level, square, and that the bottom has a smooth, flat, and stable mounting surface. If needed, you can add a metal strip or other material (sourced elsewhere).

Step 1

Decide where you want the screen to fit. The guide to the right will show where in your door frame you should begin your measurements depending on your selection.Make sure to be consistent. If you’re measuring for option C, for instance, ensure that each of your measurements are set to be midway across the doorframe.

Step 2

Measure the height of your door in at least two different places (left, right). This will increase the accuracy of your measurements. If choosing option A or B, subtract 1/16 of an inch from your number.

Step 3

Measure the width of your door in at least 3 different places (top, center, bottom). If choosing option A or B, subtract 1/16 of an inch from your number.
